WEEKLY NOTICES

Birthday greetings this week to Mr C Bougeard, Kamryn Lewis, Rev Elaine Halls, Roy Le Plongeon and Angela Olverotti!

Steve Clifford is giving a talk tomorrow, Monday February 6th between 10am-12 noon at St Paul's Church.  The theme of his talk is The Church's Mission in the 21st Century.  Steve Clifford is the General Director of the Evangelical Alliance and a driving force behind some of the UK's most dynamic Christian projects, including March for Jesus, Soul in the City, Soul Survivor (chair of the leadership team) and Hope ’08. Steve is a really exciting speaker and he is well worth hearing.  If you would like to come along please contact St Paul's Church Office on 887 877

The next Church Council meeting is this Thursday 9th February, 7.30pm in the Church Foyer.

Calling all Cooks!  We are looking to provide pancakes for the children at both schools in this area on Shrove Tuesday (21st Feb).  We need volunteers to make saucer sized pancakes (at home the night before) to help with this event.  Please let Bev know by 10th Feb, if you are able to help.  Many thanks

St. Martin look forward to welcoming you to the Circuit Service on the evening of Sunday 12th Feb. It will be a little different in that you are invited to join us for tea and cake in the hall at 5.30 pm and that will be followed by a 'scratch Pharaoh!' We will be revisiting the production the church performed two years ago, but without the theatre. Instead, seated around tables in the hall, we will sing the songs and read the script and everyone can join in with the song words being projected on the screen. It will not be a polished performance, but it will be an enjoyable evening. We hope you will be able to join us.

 The first of the More Than Gold programme of events begins very soon!  Get your team together for a Sports Quiz hosted by Christians in Sport at Springfield on Monday 13th February (Poster in the Foyer).

The Harmony Men will be playing in concert at St Martin’s Methodist Church on Thursday 16th February at 8.00pm; with Conductor Trevor Prouse, accompanied by Norma Campbell.  Tickets £5 on the door, in aid of the Community Project Fund.  Refreshments will be available.

Amnesty International are holding a Quiz Night at Trinity Parish Hall on Saturday 18th February, 7.00pm for 7.30pm start.  Tickets are £12.50 to include a Hot Supper and Homemade Cakes.  Teams should be made up of 4-6 people, and Ed Le Quesne invites others to make up a team with him!  (Please see poster in Foyer for further info)

 The programme for Fairtrade Fortnight is shaping up, with a couple of dates for your diary…Monday, February 27th an event at St Pauls Centre, featuring Jacqui Mackay from Bananalink, who campaign for the rights of workers in the large banana plantations of Central America; and an open afternoon on Saturday March 3rd, 1.30-4.30pm at the Assembly Room, Town Hall (posters in Foyer)

Women from Island Churches invite you to ‘Women’s World Day of Prayer’ on Friday 2nd March at The Town Church, 12.30-1.30pm.  Our speaker will be Rev Liz Hunter and light refreshments will be served.  Join us for as little or as long as you like.

For your diary…the first Thursday Night is Music Night Concert will be on Thursday March 8th at 8.00pm, when All Brass Souls (leader A Thompson) and a Ladies vocal trio TRE will be entertaining us.  Our programme for the year includes a full monthly quota of excellent music for you to enjoy: A Male Voice from Wales; a Brass Quintet from Canada; Jersey's Musical Originals before they leave to compete in the U SA; the Harmony Men; and a special night with Gabriella Cassidy and AAron Burrows.

On Sunday March 11th, 10.30am at St Helier Methodist Church there will be a Circuit Service with Rev Paul Smith from Plymouth Central Hall as our guest preacher. He will be with us for the weekend.  The purpose of the service is ‘to gain confidence in speaking of our faith’. The Theme is ‘Talking of God’.  Please note the following message from Rev'd Graeme Halls "THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO ’NOT GO TO CHURCH’ TODAY. I AM ASKING EVERYONE WHO NORMALLY ATTENDS THEIR OWN CHURCH TO COME ALONG ON THE 11TH."  We hope that this will be a very good occasion. The Lieutenant Governor and his wife will be attending. He is very keen to fully participate in the faith life of the Island (he was baptised a Methodist) and we welcome them.
