Jersey Network project Jersey Network
currently support a project called C.L.E.M. which stands for The Community of
Hope and Freedom for Women in Montero, Bolivia.
In the past, peasant
women who were the bread winners and paid less than a pound a day got together a
photocopying business in a dilapidated hut lent by the local Methodist church
but this did not generate enough money. In 1977 they produced
their shoulder bags out of the local hand woven cloth. Three years later, having branched out into other homemade
items, they raised enough to build a Medical Centre, helped by UK Network as
well as other organisations. The
Centre was opened in April 2001. A
nurse has been appointed and there is to be a doctor.
Although receiving help, they need to find $10,000 per year.
Jersey Network secretary, Mrs. Shirley Cauvain, has their articles to
sell and is willing to speak to any meeting about C.L.E.M.
