The Methodist new year and Autumn bring our Harvest celebrations which again have an ecumenical element as we exchange venues with the Parish Church for our evening Harvest services. The Autumn crop of apples also gives rise to a wonderful communal activity, when young and old combine to turn 24 half-hundred weight barrels of apple, cooked in a huge brass pan with 26 hours of continuous stirring to make BLACK BUTTER; actually a spicy apple preserve.

The Sunday nearest to November 11th brings the Parish Armistice Service at the Cenotaph and the Parish Church (Remembrance Sunday) |
Christmas is always a busy time in any church with children’s parties, Christingle services, School carol services, the Christmas Eve midnight Communion and Christmas Day Family Service at 10.00 am. A great highlight and family occasion is the Candlelight Carol Service just before Christmas. |
The next milestone comes with the New Year and the annual Covenant Service in early January. This is a beautiful service, though its challenges for our responses for the rest of the year are daunting & not to be taken lightly. |

This season ends with the solemn and fearful trauma of Good Friday, when the Circuit comes together in St. Helier for morning worship. Happily, Christian confidence in Jesus' resurrection, brings us to the deep joy of Easter Day and indeed reminds us that we are indeed an ‘Easter people’In February we celebrate our own church’s birthday. Whitsun (Pentecost) brings us the even greater birthday of the church universal. In the meantime we bring our thanks to God, again as an ecumenical venture, on May 9th when we rejoice at our Liberation, 63 years ago from Nazi occupation.Summer brings the Sunday School outing in lorries, enjoyed as much by the older ‘children’ as by the real children! |
